The MIX…The Moving Image Xchange International Short Film Festival (The MIX) runs February 17-19 at the Byrd Theatre. The MIX will screen 39 short films representing filmmakers from 16 countries.
Reggie Pace, band member of the Grammy Award-winning group, Bon Iver, is set to perform at the Red Carpet Awards Ceremony on Sunday, Feb 19 at 3:45pm. Pace and local jazz musician, Scott Burton of Glows in the Dark, will interpret one of this year’s top winning short films along with a second performance for the Grand Jury Prize.
$7 gets you in for a single slot of screenings (5-8 films, about 2 hrs) or $20 gets you the weekend pass for 6 screenings and all 39 films.HIGHLIGHTS include: Premier of “Thugs, the Musical!” with Kevin Avery, Margaret Cho and David Alan Grier.AND…GHOST OF OLD HIGHWAYSA man pursued by an invading army hunts down previous versions of himself amidst the purgatory of a fractured consciousness. The experiential short film is driven by an original score from the artist Lovett, whose song of the same name inspired the script from director Dan Bush. Shot on location deep in the North Carolina mountains, the surreal narrative is set against the distorted dreamscape of the Civil War, a time when this country had turned against itself and into its own worst enemy.DAN BUSH…Dan Bush, Director, Writer, Producer, Editor: In 2007, Dan co-directed The Signal. The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, was bought by Magnolia Pictures, and was given a theatrical release. This year, Dan directed The Proxy, a sci-fi thriller currently in post production. Dan has written and directed 12 short films, including Reunion, for which he won an Individual Artist grant by the South Carolina Arts Commission.
